Use Your CARES Funding for Professional Development from ASCD
Federal Funding for Professional Learning
With the education world changing at warp speed, a crucial challenge for administrators is funding for professional development to support teachers in this rapidly changing landscape.
Fortunately, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides emergency grant funding to support the increasing need for K–12 educators to perform at high levels while in distance learning. This funding includes $54.3 billion allocated for K–12.
Here is a breakdown of the funding:
The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER I and ESSER II)
Districts can use ESSER I funds to support the reopening schools, facilitate continuity of learning, and measure and address the significant learning loss caused by a lack of in-person educational opportunities.
ESSER II funds can be used to support addressing learning loss, preparing schools for reopening, and testing, repairing, and upgrading projects to improve air quality in school buildings. This new funding is more than four times the $13 million in ESSER Fund assistance provided last spring under CARES Act.
This means that now, there's new funding that addresses professional learning, with a very limited time window.
